Overview |
What is *CIDE? |
*CIDE is an Unreal 225f Mod. Its name is derived from words like suicide, homicide etc. Star represents a wildcard. *CIDE requires the latest version of Unreal to work. If your version of Unreal is older you must download the latest patch from Unreal Tech Site. |
History of *CIDE |
*CIDE was first created two years ago. The project has been abandoned, but now it is gaining momentum again, due to public's interest. There are many newer games out there of course, but for many of us Unreal has a nostalgic value. |
Goal |
*CIDE attempts to augment deathmatch experience. In the future a teamgame may be available. The mod is being designed to be of small size (to allow quick downloads), to be map independent and to be easy to use. That means that there will be none or very few custom models and sounds. Everyone hates being lagged down by downloaders. The mod will stay less than 1 megabyte download. |
Rules |
Mod is based on money system. Every time a player scores a kill he/she is awarded some money (amount set by the server's Admin). Player can spend that money on various items available through Buy Menu. Most weapons are the same as the original when no upgrades have been applied. But the real fun comes with some spending.
Buy Menu |
To access Buy Menu press F2 at any time. If you're dead, your purchases will be added to your inventory when you respawn.
Following is the description of current items available in the game. You must possess an appropriate amount of cash to be able to buy it. If you'd like to sample everything, start your own server and set the starting amount of money to a large value, then buy and test everything you like. Currently you can use the console command RICH to get unlimited funds.
Weapon Upgrades are available as normal and as permanent. Normal upgrades last until you get killed/the game ended. Permanent upgrades cost more, but let you use the upgrade until the new map. If you die next time you get the same gun, the upgrade will persist.
To access permanent upgrades press Left or Right while inside upgrade menu.
Ammo are available at any time through Ammo Menu.

Weapon Upgrades |
Fullshield (Normal/Permanent) |
Blaster
When a player spawns into the game the default weapon is Blaster. The altfire of a Blaster engages halfshield, which blocks all incoming fire in 70 degree arc in front of the player. That means a shielded player can still be killed if shot from behind. A fullshield upgrade will shield a player from all directions. However, no shield will help from a falling damage or suffocation underwater. |
Multicombo (Normal/Permanent) |
ASMD
Allows to combo all tazer orbs in vicinity. You can even combo other people's orbs indirectly, by comboing your own. Alt-fire a couple tazer orbs and combo the last one to see the effect. |
Autotracker (Normal/Permanent) |
ASMD
For all of you poor shots here's a great one. This upgrade will always combo the last launched tazer orb if you are facing it. This upgrade is absolutely lethal when combined with Multicombo. A player becomes an ultimate ASMD whore. |
True Eightball (Normal/Permanent) |
Eightball
Load up to 8 rockets or grenades and hold them in the gun until you release the fire button. Allows instant 8 rocket launch if you're running around with your Eightball fully loaded. |
KICK Minigun (Normal/Permanent) |
Minigun
Modifies Minigun to push you in the direction opposite of where you are firing. With it you can get places no man has gone before. Very useful for quick escapes - just fire at the wall and jump up. Alt fire does the opposite: it sucks the weapons out of victims' hands and pulls them towards you. |
Goo Razor (Normal/Permanent) |
RazorJack
Changes razor blades to explosive green gel blobs. They bounce of the walls and have limited guiding ability via altfire. |
Shotgun Flak (Normal/Permanent) |
Flak Cannon
Replaces your Flak Cannon's primary fire with instant action shotgun. Shotgun spread depends whether you're moving or standing still. |
Smart Missile (Normal/Permanent) |
Eightball
Eightball's heat seeking rocket is replaced with intelligent homing missile. Lock on target, fire and watch your victim run in circles trying to lose the smart missile. It will follow around corners and avoid walls to reach its target. Requires some free space to launch. |
Wasp Stinger (Normal/Permanent) |
Stinger
Replaces crystal shards with homing wasps. They aren't as smart as the smart missile, but about as smart as your regular heat seeking rockets. Altfire to launch a pack of these nasties. |
Items |
Proximity Mine |
up to 10 at any time
Place these on the wall or a ceiling and walk away. Any player unfortunate enough to walk close to one will get blown to bits. Proximity mines can be shot down by any explosive weapon. |
Suicide Kit |
When activated, the player detonates himself, taking all bystanders with him. Survivors of the initial explosions still have a chance to join the fun by catching one of the grenades originating from the blast. |
Jump Boots |
charged with 10 jumps
Your standard NIKE jumping boots. |

Notes |
The mod is still being developed and there are bugs. The team (me, myself and I ) are constantly testing it and adding new features. If there is something you'd like to see added or you have any other comments/suggestions, please feel free to email.

Download |
To install, simply unzip into your Unreal/System folder. A new gametype will appear in Multiplayer/Start Game menu. If you run a server and with to allow people to download this mod, open your Unreal.ini file, find the section that lists all ServerPackages (I usually search for "ServerPa" string in Unreal.ini file) and add a line with cide.u
