Map Lists Configuration

This configuration page allows you to create your own customised map lists.  Most of this resembles the original UT2003 functionality, however there are a few additions.

The page contains two lists.  The one on the right displays all the maps compatible with a selected game type.  The list of the left displays the maps in the current Custom List.

Map Database

This is something that you do not need to be directly concerned with.  MapMixer keeps its own internal list of maps that are installed in the UT maps folder.  When you go to the Map List Configuration Page, MapMixer checks to see if it has an up-to-date list.  The first time you do this, it will take some time to scan the available maps and retrieve all the required map details.  Successive updates will never take this long.  It uses these map details in its Map Database to enhance the details displayed in the Game Type Available Maps (right list) and also to enable quick Map List Filtering in this list.

MapMixer updates the MapDatabase when it detects a different number of maps installed than when the config was last opened. Therefore, if you simply renamed a map file or added and removed exactly the same number of maps, then MapMixer will fail to detect the change.  In this case you can select the Available Maps List (ie click on the right list) and hit the F5 key.  This causes a manual Map Database update.  You do not need to use this function all the time - only use it in the circumstances just mentioned!

Creating a Map List

Creating a list is exactly the same as the map list editor in the original game menu, so there's no need to re-explain most of what you see.  You will note that it is possible to add a any prefix type map to a list, so you could for example play CTF games in DeathMatch etc.

One key difference to note is that when you add a new map to the map list, the game type you added it from is recorded. This is of importance only if you intend to enable Game Type Switching, otherwise it is of no value.

Game Types (Drop Down List)
Select a Game Type here and all the maps associated with that game type will be displayed.  Note that some Game Types will allow various map types.  For example, you may see DM, CTF and BR etc displayed for game types that allow them.

Remove Added Maps
This emulates the original UT2003 map list by moving maps from the right list to the left list when you add them, stopping you from adding them twice.  This can be disabled if you wish to add a map twice or more in a list, however it is enabled by default to maintain original compatibility with UT2003.

Game Types (Button)
This button, underneath the Custom Map List allows you to change the selected map's game type to the one listed on the right side via the Game Types drop down list selector.

Duplicate
Simply select a map from the Custom Map List and click on Duplicate to make a copy of that map.  This is particularly useful if you want to duplicate a map in the current list and then change it's game type.

Edit
Click on this button and the Available Maps List will disappear, showing a section where you can alter the Game Rules, Mutators, Player Counts and Bot Skill for the selected map in the current Custom Map list.  The settings are divided into two sections (or pages).  There is a button just to the right of the Edit button that shows either "Edit Mutators" of "Edit Game Rules" to allow you to switch between the two pages.

You may add only the Game Rules you wish to override for this map, as you may be using a Game Rule List that contains your main settings.

"?" Buttons
There are two buttons with a question mark on them.  These allow you to view map information of the selected map from the respective map list.

Manipulating the List

Each list can be sorted by clicking on the column title that you want to sort by. You can sort in ascending or descending order by repeatedly clicking. The sorting is temporary when used in the Available Maps List (on right) but is permanent on a Custom Map List (when saved).

Keyboard Shortcuts for the Map List

Map List Filter

You can perform some filtering on the Game Type Available Maps List (right list).  Above the Game Types list there is a check box "Use Filter".  If you click this then a menu will appear allowing you to enter some parameters for the filter.

Map Name
Enter any text, so that only maps with names containing this string will be displayed in the list.  The text is not case sensitive.

Map Author
Enter any text, so that only maps with map authors containing this string will be displayed in the list.  The text is not case sensitive.

Player Counts
Enter a number in either of these two boxes so that only maps with recommended player counts between these two values will be displayed.

Once you click on the Apply button, the filter will be applied to the list.  You may then toggle the filter on and off with the "Use Filter" check box.

Note that the filter works in combination with the Game Type selector above the list.

You may save a filter for later use by typing a name in the drop-down list at the top and selecting save. Load the saved filter by selecting it again.

Saving a Map List

To save the currently displayed list on the left you must enter a name for the list in the box up the top and then select save.  If the list name was already present then it will be saved over.

Deleting a Map List

To delete a list, simply select it from the drop-down list and click on delete.

Merging a Map List

This allows you to combine a previously saved list with the present one.  Firstly select the entry in the current list where you want to insert the other saved list and then click on the Merge button.  Now all other non-relevant buttons will disappear and you can select the other map list by selecting it from the List Name drop-down list.
